TV Finds: How I Met Your Mother

If I could steal any fictional character’s wardrobe, it would definitely be Robin Scherbatsky’s from How I Met Your Mother. I love her feminine corporate style of sharp blazers over billowy blouses with fitted jeans and heels. But every so often there’s one piece she wears that makes me immediately Google it on my phone.

Mason by Michelle Mason Chiffon Inset Gown (Sold Out)

So damn pretty! I don’t consider myself short, but I definitely don’t think I have the height needed for this length of a gown. I’ve stayed away from maxi dresses because I don’t think they would suit my size and shape. However, the cinched waist on this gown is extremely flattering and the halter neck is a classy alternative to the usual v-neck cut maxi’s.

Considering this gown is sold out and completely out of my price range, I found a few similar alternatives for any special occasions this summer.

1. Xscape Pleat Cutaway Blouson Dress
2. Ann Taylor Tall Halter Maxi Dress
3. Forever 21 Elegant M-Slit Maxi Dress

I like that these dresses have a slightly fuller skirt. This is ideal for apple shapes such as myself who don’t like to wear anything tight throughout the waist and hips. If I put on my big girl panties and wore this dress, I would pair it with rose gold sandal heels and dainty bracelets for an evening look.

Do you prefer shorter or longer gowns? How do you style your maxi dresses?

TV Finds: Ja’mie Private School Girl

This show, y’all. This show.

I can’t.

Thanks to my friend, Nicky for recommending it to me, I have finally watched the first three episodes of Ja’mie Private School Girl and I can’t get enough. Played by Chris Lilley, Ja’mie King is a sassy multi-talented school girl who hates fat lesbians and chin acne. You need to grow some tits if this show offends you. I love this unique Australian comedy series and it is my new favorite thing in existence right now.

It is so hilariously odd that I was very surprised to be smitten with Ja’mie’s party outfit.

It’s so girly and shiny that I couldn’t help but love it. I don’t usually wear yellow, but I would if it meant I would attract all the quiche boys at Kelton Grammar.

My favorite part of her outfit is her metallic blazer. It hits at her waist and looks so damn cute over her yellow fit and flare jacquard dress. Here are my picks to pair with your yellow frock.

If you’re open to blunt, offensive humor, this show may be for you. I’m a fan of creative insults and Ja’mie delivers.

I think TV Finds are my favorite kind of posts so if you’ve spotted an outfit or item in your favorite show that you would like me to research, let me know!

TV Finds: Orphan Black

I’ve recently become a fan of the BBC America series, “Orphan Black.” I finished the entire first season in four days and I am recommending it to everyone I know. So, you there, if you have any interest in science fiction or Canadians, you’ll like this show.

One surprising element of the show I didn’t expect to fall in love with is the fashion. The lead character plays various roles in the show who all dress differently. One of the characters, Beth Childs, is the most classic of the group. Aside from her gorgeous grey knit dress and trench coat, I fell most in love with her black leather satchel.

Beth Childs bag

It is structured, has minimal hardware, and a shoulder strap making it an ideal timeless purse. I am rarely attracted to bags that have tassels and zippers, so this one had my full attention whenever it was on screen. I wanted to find something similar in various price ranges, as seen below.

Material and craftsmanship aside, I love how you can achieve a certain look at various price ranges. These bags remind me most of the original purse and are simple enough to be paired in all seasons.

Is there a purse or accessory you love from a favorite show? Let me know and maybe we can find a similar one together.
